The Metal P-Ring seal, also professionally known as the Metal Comma-Ring, is a high-performance, resilient sealing element specifically engineered for axial pressure orientations and slow dynamic shaft applications. Its unique "comma" geometry consists of a curved, pressure-energized base joined to an extended sealing lip, bridging the gap between static sealing and limited dynamic motion.
Critical Surface Requirements: Because these seals are used in semi-dynamic motions, the mating shaft or bore surface must be mirror-polished and possess high hardness (typically >60 HRC).
Dual-Energization: The seal functions by utilizing both the inherent mechanical elasticity of the metallic substrate and the system's hydrostatic pressure to augment contact stress.
This design allows for better control of seal lip interference compared to standard C-rings, ensuring a consistent footprint even during limited joint movement. Silver plating is highly recommended to provide anti-galling properties during rotational cycles.
