EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In 2019, confronted with sealing challenges at critical positions of nuclear grade pressure transmitters, including radiation resistance, high‑temperature resistance and service life exceeding 20  years, the Sonkit engineering team successfully developed a product with double‑layer base material structure based on spring‑ energized externally-open metal C-rings, which greatly improves  the strength of metal C‑rings.     

According to different working conditions of customers, Sonkit can provide a variety of sealing solutions for selection, including balanced metal hollow O‑rings  and double‑layer externally‑open spring‑energized metal C‑rings.     

A series of rigorous tests show that these sealing solutions deliver beyond‑
expectation sealing performance and guarantee high‑reliability sealing.

CHALLENGES

Long‑term stable sealing performance under high‑temperature and high‑pressure environments caused by thermal expansion, deformation and aging is essential for reliable equipment operation. Sealing for nuclear‑grade pressure transmitters faces tremendous challenges. The major challenges include:
      Extreme Temperature Conditions: The seal must maintain its sealing performance across a temperature range of -50°C to 350°C.
      High‑Pressure Resistance: The sealing solution must function effectively in pressure conditions ranging from vacuum to 40 MPa.
      Sealing Medium Compatibility: The solution must ensure reliable sealing for reactor coolant, boric acid, demineralized water, seawater, water, air, steam and other special media.
      Radiation Resistance:The seal shall withstand long‑term high‑radiation exposure and meet relevant sealing requirements.

High-Reliability Requirements:The seal must ensure long‑term stable operation and consistent sealing performance with a service life of more than 20 years.

Sealing Performance Beyond Expectations

After testing, the leak rate of the system was reduced to 1 × 10⁻¹⁰ Pa·m³/s with Sonkit's sealing solution in place, and zero leakage was observed at a test pressure of 40 MPa.

Compared with conventional rubber seals, these metal seals deliver long-term high reliability while maintaining consistent sealing integrity, making them suitable for a wide range of harsh operating conditions.
